FitBit

FitBit’s are everywhere now, and they are really quite amazing. Between the distance tracker and other features it may be the best tech gadget you could have to help stay active and fit. Here’s a beginners guide to owning  a FitBit:

– Set your stride length

  • Having a FitBit is great because they can be (and should be) completely personalized to each individual owner. Since they often do measurements in steps, it is incredibly important to set your average stride length accurately in order to get proper data.

– Setup the MobileTrack app in case you forget your Fitbit

  • If you have a FitBit, it’s worthless when you leave it at home. Luckily, they have a very convenient mobile app that you can log into and track your activity as you go. This will prevent you from losing valuable activity data.

– Personalize the dashboard

  • If you want to use your FitBit regularly, it needs to be easy to use. Personalize it so that features you use more often are easier to access.

AppleWatch

An AppleWatch is kind of like an advanced FitBit. You can have and use both simultaneously, or you can really get familiar with your AppleWatch and it will take care of almost everything. A few features that make it possible are:

  • Built-in GPS
    • It has a tiny built in GPS that can link with certain apps to track your routes while running, walking, hiking, biking, etc. This can help you identify more challenging or more enjoyable routes. It can also be incredibly valuable if you get turned around somewhere unfamiliar and need help getting home.
  • Water resistance up to 50 meters
    • This is not to say that you should be taking your AppleWatch with you in the water all the time. But, with the proper care, you can now use it in the pool for short swims and record your activity.

MyFitnessPal

This is just a simple app that anyone can download on their smartphone from the Microsoft Store or use online from their computer. It’s a caloric calculator that uses very simple methods to help you stay fit. A few things to remember are:

  • Log everything that you eat and do so that you will get perfectly accurate results. If you miss something, a underestimated guess is the best you can do.
  • Make Goals regularly and challenge yourself to meet them and break them in order to maintain constant progress.
